Banff Weekend

Friday August 13 - Sunday August 15, 2010

Friday evening we met Dennis and Elisabeth (Peter's folks), and Mormor (Peter's grandma) in Lake Louise. We stayed with them in their new 5th wheel. We made them dinner of sausage, perogies (with all the fixings) and salad. After dinner we went to the amphitheatre to listen to the end of a presentation on "A year in the life of a grizzly". We ate hot apple crumble for dessert.

Saturday Peter, Elisabeth, and I hiked Sherbrooke Lake and up to Niles Amphitheatre in Yoho National Park. The distance was approximately 18km. We took our longest break at the amphitheatre. The flies were vicious - even the bug repellant could not keep them away. This was one of the first long hikes we had done this season and we were pooped - so we turned back from here and skipped the 45min ascent to Niles Meadow (next time).

During the day on Saturday, Dennis and Mormor moved the 5th wheel to Tunnel Mountain in Banff. When we arrived back from our hike we were greeted with a steak dinner. After dinner we played cards and relaxed before calling it a night.

On Sunday we all slept in and had a big breakfast. All five of us went into Banff. We went to the grizzly exhibit at the Whyte Museum and to the Banff Park Museum. Peter and I returned to Calgary in the afternoon.
